Thank You For a Great 2017!
This past year was a year of reaching new heights and achievements in the Clubs. Community supporters and donors, like you, made it possible for the Clubs to serve more than 1,300 youth per day and help them develop emotionally and academically. Here are some of our great successes in 2017:
- We expanded our partnership with the Kansas City Public School district (KCPS), taking our Atomic Blast Summer program to 10 additional KCPS school sites, serving nearly 3,000 children and youth per day this past June alone;
- 100% of our active seniors graduated from high school with post-secondary plans;
The Olathe Unit Kansas Reading Roadmap program was recognized as ‘Program of the Year’ across the state among 59 sites – the only non-school site in the state;
- Our teens participated in nearly 40 college campus tours and an even greater number of career exposure field trips to local companies;
- Results from our Atomic Blast summer program revealed that:
- 89% of K-3rd graders maintained or increased their competencies in reading and in math;
- 82% of 4th – 8th graders maintained or increased their competencies in math and 100% increased or maintained their competencies in reading!
We thank you for supporting our mission and community work. We look forward to making a deeper impact in 2018 and providing even more Kansas City area children and teens with a place to become their very best!
2017 Annual Campaign Results
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City’s 2017 Annual Campaign focused on securing resources to sustain transportation for Club members and school year programming. The campaign was successful in raising over $200,000 during the fourth quarter of 2017!
Led by Campaign Chair and Corporate Board Member, Eric Schroeder, this campaign provided individuals across the community an opportunity to invest in the great work of the Clubs through a consolidated platform. More than 300 gifts were made through our Annual Campaign.
A big thank you to the more than two dozen volunteer solicitors and supporters who helped make this possible!

It’s Basketball Season!
Forty basketball teams and more than 400 youth are participating in the 2018 Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City basketball league sponsored by Live Like Luke. Coached by a host of wonderful Club volunteers, basketball players spend three hours per week participating in practice and games. Basketball is just one of the sports offered at the Clubs as part of the Sports L.A.B.(Lifestyle, Attitude, Behavior) program. As with all sports programming available at the Clubs, basketball is a way to help each individual player become exposed to healthier choices on and off the court. Some of the basic life skills players learn through basketball participation are goal setting, the importance of practice and repetition, and perseverance.
The 2018 season will conclude with “March Madness” tournament play on March 3rd at The College Basketball Experience.

Kids Night Out is about inspiring hope in and creating opportunities for the nearly 8,000 urban youth who come into our Clubs every year. We bring Hollywood’s brightest stars to the Kansas City stage for an evening of entertainment and celebration – allowing us to raise greatly needed funds for youth so we can continue inspiring these young people to dream big, and then help them plan for great futures.
