This Month at the Clubs – May 2016

Monthly News and Updates from the Clubs

Celebrating the Class of 2016!

On Tuesday, May 3,  Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City’s high school seniors were honored with a special celebration to recognize their high school graduations. Twenty-seven of our 43 seniors walked across the stage at Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation to receive their BGCGKC graudate honors. Four members were recognized for their long-time membership and accomplishments with a special video to reflect on their Club experiences. Like many of our members, those four teens have overcome many difficult life situations and, with the help of the Clubs and staff, they have post-secondary plans in place and are looking forward to great futures.

Our special guest, Dr. Joe Seabrooks, Metropolitian Community College, Penn Valley Campus President, shared that our youth should have a sense of urgency because time does pass quickly. “You want your 40-year-old self to look back and be proud of the decisions that you made today,” said Seabrooks.

It is our strategic mission to see all of our teen members on a successful path. It thrills the hearts of our staff, supporters, and friends to see them accomplish the first step down that path of high school graduation with post-secondary plans. Good luck, graduates!

Dave Smith Receives Prestigious Masters & Mentors Award

Earlier this month, our very own president, David A. Smith, received the Masters and Mentors award at the Boys & Girls Clubs of America National Leadership Conference in New Orleans, LA.

The recipient of this most prestigious award must demonstrate a contribution to the Boys & Girls Club movement, successful Club professional mentorship and professional excellence. During Dave’s more than 20 year tenure as President of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City, he has served our community with passion, dedication and tenacity. Dave has opened many doors for youth and professionals in our community.

On behalf of BGCGKC staff, Club members, friends and supporters of the Boys & Girls Club movement; to you, Dave, we thank you for your many years of leadership and we say, “Well done, and well deserved!”
