Carlton McCormick
Northland Unit Director
Carlton McCormick, known as “Mr. C” around the Clubs, has been with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City since 2017. Born and raised in Kansas City, MO, Carlton is a former Club member himself, having attended Satchel Paige Elementary School. As a fifth-grader, he often performed at Boys & Girls Club events across the Kansas City area. Carlton graduated in 2013 from Paseo Academy of Fine & Performing Arts with a major in Vocal Music.
In the summer of 2017, Carlton rejoined the Boys & Girls Clubs as a Youth Development Professional for the Atomic Blast Summer Program at Faxon Elementary School, transitioning to the Thornberry Unit that fall. He went on to serve as Program Lead Staff at Thornberry before moving to the Clubs' administrative office in 2021 as the Membership Enrollment Administrator, where he assisted families with enrollment across Greater Kansas City. In January 2022, Carlton returned to direct Club work, first as Program Director at the Breidenthal Unit in Kansas City, KS, and now as the Unit Director for the Northland Unit.
Carlton is a certified Boys & Girls Clubs (BGC) Trainer, dedicated to advancing the skillset of youth development professionals. His training topics include Classroom Management, the BGC Mission, Formula for Impact, the Five Key Elements of Youth Development, Trauma-Informed Care, and High-Yield Learning Activities (HYLAs).
Throughout his tenure, Carlton has received several awards, including the “Aim for Excellence” award for his alignment with the BGC Mission, and the “Elaine Allen Award,” named after the late Arts Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City, recognizing his commitment to youth service through the arts. Carlton also created and curated the Club's first Passport to Manhood Conference in 2022 and 2023, as well as the Elaine Allen Talent Showcase in 2024.
